Japanese Antique Pottery Jar / Tokoname Ware / 1500s/ kiln-transformed vase

About the Item

It is a very old pot in Japan. This is a pottery called Tokoname ware. Tokoname is a kiln in Aichi prefecture, Japan. (The part marked with a red circle on the map is the Tokoname kiln) It is said to have been born around the 12th century. In addition, Japan has a long history, and there are six kilns that are still in operation. It is one of them. This is a vase made around the late Muromachi period to the Momoyama period (1550–1600).(Also, as a reference, a similar item from the same era as this item was featured in the Japanese art book "Tokoname Ware Masterpiece Illustrated Guide," so I have attached a photo.) It was fired for a long time in the kiln, and the ash flowed over it, melting to form a beautiful glaze. It is yellowish. It has a glossy finish and is beautiful. On the opposite side, it has turned a reddish-brown color, with the surrounding area turning dark brown due to kiln change. This is believed to be due to the heat of the flames not directly hitting it, resulting in this coloration. It is a very beautiful piece that evokes a sense of wabi-sabi. You can enjoy it from different angles by changing its orientation. One spot on the edge of the rim is chipped. There are no other major damages. Additionally, in photo 17, there is something that looks like blue paint on the bottom. I have left it as is, as attempting to remove it may cause damage. There should be no particular issues with appreciating the piece as it is. I also filled this item about half with water and left it for half a day, but there was no leakage. You can arrange flowers directly in it. I want many people to experience the charm of antiques, so I have set a reasonable price. Why not show it off to your friends? Weight: 9.05 kg [We mainly sell old Japanese items. We've seen tens of thousands of items so far. Taking advantage of that experience, we are posting attractive items here. We are able to do this because we have a long experience. We introduce simple objects, tools used by common people, and objects used in temples that are different from the image of Japan that we have known up until now. We are rediscovering Japanese beauty that is unknown to the world, evaluating it, and disseminating it.]
