About the Item
This is an old pottery pot made in Japan.
It is a very old pot believed to have been made in the 17th century, early Edo period, and is called Koshigaraki in Japan.
Koshigaraki refers to old Shigaraki ware made in the Shigaraki region of Shiga Prefecture, and those made between the Momoyama period and the early Edo period (1573s-1700s) are particularly prized. It is characterized by the rich expression of the natural glaze and the simple yet powerful presence of the clay, and the distortions and surface features created by the accidental nature of the firing process give it a unique beauty.
This jar also embodies such "accidental beauty. The overall distorted form is the result of the firing process and the shaping of the pot on the potter's wheel. The surface has a natural glaze caused by ash covering, a rough texture, and small holes and irregularities created during the firing process. These give the jar a decadent yet poetic presence.
Of particular note is the rich texture from the body to the mouth. The texture of the blackish-brown base with grayish-white and reddish-brown variations, woven by aging and firing, is striking. This is not something that can be artificially reproduced; it is an accidental beauty created by time and fire.
Although very old, there are no cracks or chips, and the overall condition is excellent. Although it is not suitable for holding water, it can be used as a vase by using a drop vase.
This vase, which brings a sense of quiet tension to a space, goes well with contemporary interiors and can be used as an art piece in both Japanese and Western settings.
It is a piece that embodies the spirit of “wabi-sabi” nurtured in Japan. Please enjoy its texture and presence.
Mouth diameter: approx. 100 mm
Weight: 12 kg

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
