About the Item

Luigi Carron designed this stunning Mid-Century Modern ceramic vase for Alcyone of Marostica, Italy, circa 1950. The chunky amphora shape has painted geometric and stylized animal designs. The design pattern is different around the vase. This piece has a tall, elongated proportion with a narrow collar. The vase is signed on the underside, Alcyone - Italy. Dimensions: 5.50 in diameter (14 cm) by 15.75 in high (40 cm). Reference: Alcyone of Marostica was a ceramic factory active in Marostica, near Nove di Bassano, from 1955 to 1987. It was founded by Luigi Carron, Ferruccio Los, Visonà di Valdagno, Ferruccio Costacurta, and Mario Pozza. Luigi Carron was born in Marostica, in the province of Vicenza, in 1926. At 17, he was already a partisan escort of the Osoppo Brigade and fought against the Nazi-fascist occupation. At the end of the war, he graduated from the artistic high school in his hometown and began drawing activity at the Graziani College in Bassano and around the mid-fifties, together with the members Ferruccio Los, Visonà di Valdagno, Ferruccio Costacurta, and Mario Pozza, they founded the ceramic laboratory "Alcyone" in Nove di Bassano. A painter, sculptor, medalist, and ceramist, in 1979, he created the central door of the Arcipretale Church of Marostica. In 1995, he created a ceramic Via Crucis for the Church of San Luca. He died in Marostica in 2006

Mid-Century Willy Johansson Art Glass Vase for Hadeland Norway
By Hadeland, Willy Johansson
Located in Atlanta, GA
This beautiful art glass vase was designed by Willy Johansson (1921 - 1993) for Hadeland Glassverk, Norway. It is smooth to the touch, but the appearance looks heavily textured with ribs and bubbles trapped in glass. From the Atlantic series, this vase has a cylindrical fluted shape in heavy lead crystal clear glass with deep ribbed sides and internal bubbles in the lower half of the vase. Finely flat ground and highly polished top with an overhang style lip, this art-glass has a nice modernist flair. The vase is signed on the underside and reads Hadeland - WJ. Measurements: 4.75 in diameter (12 cm) x 10 in high (25.5 cm). Note: Willy Johansson was a (1921- 1993) Norwegian glassware designer. Between 1939-42, he studied Statens Handvaerks -og Kunstindustriskole Oslo. His father was at the Hadelands Glassverk, Jevnaker, where Johansson joined the glassmaking workshop in 1936. He was best known for the white rim on his clear or smoked glassware...
