About the Item

Ultra Modern Mid-Century Large Ceramic Jug Vase by Ceramano, c. 1960s, West Germany A striking and rare large ceramic handled jug vase by cult German ceramics workshop Ceramano, handmade circa the 1960s in the town of Ransbach-Baumbach, then West Germany. This sculptural piece embodies the ultra-modernist spirit of mid-century European studio pottery. Design & Finish: The vase features an exquisite and distinctive matte grainy glaze in a complex cerulean-mauve blue blended with subtle ash grey undertones, giving it a uniquely tactile and visual appeal. Its clean, modernist silhouette is accentuated by a handle, creating a perfect harmony between function and form. Entirely hand-formed, the piece carries the workshop’s signature and code on the base, attesting to its authenticity. About Ceramano: Ceramano was founded in 1959 by Jacob Schwaderlapp, who had already founded Jasba, it was located in the town of Ransbach-Baumbach and was started to produce high end studio orientated pieces. Early pieces of Ceramano were often hand thrown and all were hand decorated. Decor patterns changed with new piece designs, you will see this mostly on the colored pieces like Fire (Red), Sunset (Yellow), Polaris (White) and rarer Turkis (Blue). Most decors seemed to change, even the later ones. The key designer Hanns Welling was with Ceramano from the beginning, it is a reasonable idea that Jakob Schwaderlapp started the company around him. Welling stayed until 1961, and his role as designer was taken by Gerda Heukeroth in 1962. There is a special series designed by Dudas Laszlo, these are rare and hard to find. Sadly Ceramano closed in 1984, but the brand name still exists, on ceramic tiles, as does Jasba. We specialized in antique and 20th century ceramics, glass and objects, like lamps, side tables, stools, mirrors, etc. Please check out our storefront ¨Gorgeous Vases¨ for more items in this style.
