About the Item

Midcentury Sculptural Ceramic Jug Vase by Roberto Rigon for Bertoncello, Italy, 1960s A striking and rare sculptural ceramic jug vase designed by Roberto Rigon for Bertoncello Ceramiche, Italy, circa 1960s. This piece is signed with the "RR" monogram for Rigon and marked with item code 8/1 and the original Italy production stamp. Strongly influenced by both Neolithic forms and the organicist design trends of the Midcentury period, the vase blends primitive sensibility with refined modernist aesthetics. The sinuous curves and natural tones make it as much a sculptural object as a functional vessel. Handmade in Italy, the piece is in excellent condition. Two small chips on the mouth have been professionally restored and are nearly invisible to the eye. The base shows minor unevenness, consistent with age and use, which adds character and authenticity. Dimensions: Height: 30 cm (11.8 in) Diameter: 20 cm (7.9 in) Bertoncello Ceramiche was established in Schiavon, Vicenza, around 1956. Led by Giovanni Bertoncello (1930–2011), the studio became known for its distinctly sculptural ceramic forms and experimental glazes. Many of their designs, including this one, evoke architectural maquettes or modernist sculpture. Production ceased in 1999, and with the destruction of their archives, original pieces like this one have become increasingly sought after. A beautiful and uncommon example of Italian Midcentury design—elegant and timeless. We specialized in antique and 20th century ceramics, glass and objects, like lamps, side tables, stools, mirrors, etc. Please check out our storefront ¨Gorgeous Vases¨ for more items in this style.
