About the Item

A miniature ceramic vase in earthtones designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane and produced by Rörstrand, Sweden, 1950s. Carl-Harry Stålhane joined Rörstrand in 1939, beginning as a decorator under Gunnar Nylund before becoming one of Sweden’s most celebrated ceramic artists. By the 1950s and 60s, as Rörstrand’s artistic director, he developed a signature style defined by elegant, restrained forms, earthy matte glazes, and influences from Chinese Song ceramics. His work ranges from refined studio pieces to robust, hand-thrown vessels with richly textured surfaces, often in subtle, natural tones. Internationally acclaimed—winning a gold medal at the 1954 Milan Triennale—Stålhane helped shape the image of Swedish mid-century ceramics.
