About the Item

Modern Italian Murrine Murano glass vase in black-white-brown-copper by Paolo Crepax Biography Paolo Crepax Murano Venezia 1960 Paolo at the tender age of 10 he started working with glass master Livio Seguso. From 1966 to 1973 he works in the atelier of the Master Fulvio Scarpa. In 1973 Paolo Crepax starts his independent path by opening a furnace with Murano glassware - he starts producing glass clowns, Venetian maidens Goldoni and other souvenirs. In 1978 the crisis of global foreign markets turned the Italian export of souvenirs into a no longer sustainable business. In 1979 Paolo Crepax immersed in the artistic life of Venice. He transformed his company into an artistic orientation and expanded an experimental path in the world of decorative lighting and successful production by the technique of filigree and other valuable artistic works. In 1984 Paolo Crepax starts to increase the quality aiming to contemporary creativity. In 1985 Paolo Crepax participates with his works internationally and won his first prize in Dusseldorf, and later on further prizes in Barcelona, New York and Paris. Among the prizes one must be noted the "Premio Murano 1985" competition in particular of a 70cm diameter plate ("Hommage to Miro"). The jury of award was composed of people of culture as well as by Alfredo Barbini masters, Archimede Seguso, Ermanno Nason and Livio Seguso. In 1986 he won the reward "Premio Murano 1986" together with the painter Richard Shwaizer. In 1989 Paul Crepax meets in Venice Ottavio Missoni and Milo Schoon for whom he made two innovative glass collections. In 1990 Paul Crepax began working for established companies as Leucos, Artemide, Vistosi, OtyLight. "After 54 years working with glass for me it is as if it was still the first day I could not help working this amazing and fascinating material. The art creates sleepless nights - getting up at 3 o' clock in the morning sketching a drawing and see it materialized in even more beautiful glass finish work on Friday and waiting anxiously for the final result on Monday makes me feeling alive again." Paolo Crepax.
