Scandinavian Modern Squared & Fluted Brass Vase By Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall
By Gunnar Ander, Ystad-Metall
Located in Grythyttan, SE
This mid-century vase, designed by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall, exemplifies Scandinavian Modern design from the 1960s. Made of brass, the vase features a distinctive squared and conical shape, resting on a circular base. The design is enhanced by three vertical flutes on each side, adding subtle detail to its clean lines.
Handcrafted in Ystad, Sweden, it bears the engraved markings "Ystad-Metall" and "MADE IN SWEDEN" on the underside, confirming its authenticity. This vase is a fine representation of the craftsmanship and aesthetic principles of its time.
ABOUT GUNNAR ANDER
Gunnar Ander (1908–1976) was a Swedish designer known for his artistic talent and significant contributions to Scandinavian design. Born in Lidköping, Ander showed early promise, illustrating for a local newspaper as a teenager before studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm.
In the late 1940s or early 1950s, he joined Ystad-Metall, where he created some of the company’s most iconic designs, particularly his brass candle holders, which remain highly sought after today. Ander also worked for Lindshammar Glassworks and was a key designer at Scandia Present...
