About the Item

Pair of Mid-Century Modernist West German vases by Scheurich Keramik, circa 1970 Beautiful and silky green and amber color with embossed relief pattern or motif. Classic 1970s Western Germany design. On the last two pictures you can see other West German pieces from the 50s, 60s, 70s available in our store. Very good condition. The West-Germany ceramics that emerged in the post-war period is marked by two influences. The first Scandinavian, with its elegant, purified and balanced production. The second Italian more colorful and sculptural. The production extends from the 1950s to the 1970s. The works of the 1950s present pastel colors, geometric or biomorphic decorations and graphics. The decorations are asymmetrical. The ceramics of the 60's show more colorful designs with contrasts of browns, reds, oranges and even greens. Geometric patterns borrowed from architecture became more common. The 70's offer pottery with more extravagant shapes, colors and patterns, zoomorphic inspiration takes a large place in the pieces of this period. The pieces were individually glazed which makes each ceramic a unique object. Underneath the base is the West-Germany signature as well as the model number and size. On some pieces, the name of the ceramist and the factory are also indicated. Among the best known are Bay Ceramic, Roth and Scheurich.
