Rare Miniature Antique French Art Pottery Blue Crystalline Glaze by Pierrefonds

About the Item

An exquisite rare miniature stoneware vase of bulbous form, with tiny twin handles and a long neck, covered with a flowing strong blue glaze, crystalline in places, on a yellow ground. By the ‘Pierrefonds’ French ceramic studio in Oise, Picardie, north of Paris. It was a pottery established in 1903 by Olivier de Sorra, Count Hallez D’Arros, at Pierrefonds, a village at the foot of the famous majestic Ducs d’Orléans castle. Marked with the customary Pierrefonds company cachet - an impressed heraldic devise consisting of a medieval helmet with visor flanked by the letters ‘F’ for ‘Faiencerie’ and ‘H’ for ‘Heraldique’, underlined by the name ‘Pierrefonds’. They were famed for their striking blue and green colours, specialized in Art Nouveau ceramic forms and particularly known for crystalline and flambe glazes of superb quality, both of which are displayed on this superb pot. In perfect original condition with no restoration.     Please note that the flash photography may make the colours slightly brighter than they are in real life. Crystalline Glaze Ceramic Ikebana Vase, Blue, American Studio Pottery, 2003
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
The vintage studio pottery ceramic ikebana vase is decorated with crystalline glaze in striking, bright blue and yellow palette. The vase was hand thrown on a wheel; blue color crystals on muted yellow colored base were grown in a kiln during a very long, controlled firing. Each crystalline piece is unique due to the nature of the glaze. The vase was allowed to develop an abundance of distinct, graphic crystals, creating a free-flowing abstract pattern and adding rich texture to the minimally shaped piece. The opening is placed asymmetrically on the side of the vase and is outfitted with flower frog. The vase was made by Wizards of Clay...
