Saint Clement Blanche Letalle French Art Deco Vase In Ceramic And Pure Gold
About the Item
We kindly invite you to read the entire description, as we strive to provide detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our items.
This distinctive and captivating vase stands out for its understated Pompeian red color, admired for its exceptional elegance and plasticity. The body is adorned with linear, refined, stylized stars in relief, embellished with pure gold accents. The pottery used is glazed earthenware, and the glossy finish suggests the use of vitreous glazes to achieve a bright, uniform effect. The gilding on the stars was likely applied using the ceramic lustre technique, where gold is added at a low temperature after the initial firing, resulting in a shiny and durable finish. The vase was crafted in the Art Deco style between 1930 and 1935 at the Saint Clement pottery manufactory in France. The bottom of the vase bears the maker's mark along with the number 4032, identifying the model. Additionally, the signature of renowned designer and potter Blanche Letalle, who worked at Saint Clement from the late 1930s until 1958, is present. Saint Clement was founded in 1758 by Jacques Chambrette of Lunéville, and the region’s tradition of earthenware production dates back to the 18th century. The pieces still produced at Saint-Clément are the result of this long-standing heritage. In 1892, the Lunéville and Saint-Clément factories merged, dominating the French pottery market. In 1923, the company was acquired by Édouard Fenal, son of the founder of the Badonviller earthenware factories. In the first half of the 20th century, with the rise of the Art Deco movement, famous sculptors such as Geo Conde, Charles Lemanceau, and Blanche Letalle collaborated with Saint Clement, creating exquisite decorative objects inspired by Constructivism and Cubism. The vase is in good condition; the pure gold on the stars shows inevitable wear, which only adds to its charm and historical significance. Measurements: diameter 20 cm, height 28 cm. For all our shipments, we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) to ensure maximum protection and safety of the items.
