About the Item
Pair of Spanish ceramic vases from Sargadelos, mid-19th Century, Victorian Age. Ivory-colored glazed ceramics from Galicia (Spain), in the shape of a vase with 5 arms or fingers representing barnacles (a very typical Galician seafood).
Sargadelos began as an industrial project by the Galician Marquis of Sargadelos, which revolutionized the artistic panorama and the manufacture of Galician ceramics and earthenware. The manufacture of these pieces in the municipality of Cervo, in Galicia, quickly became very popular due to the quality of the pieces and their designs. The first factory of these ceramics was the Royal Factory of Sargadelos, which was created in 1806 by Antonio Raimundo Ibáñez.
This pair of vases belong to the production of the mid-19th Century, where the pieces were mainly monochromatic (white or ivory). Later on, colors, drawings, and patterns were added to the designs. Even today its production is still at the forefront, and Sargadelos ceramics are a benchmark in Spanish design and quality.
One of the pieces has the lack of one of its arms, but it does not affect its beauty, but rather gives personality and soul to the piece. Small defects, see photos.
Museum pieces, very collectible.
