Scandinavian Glass Vase Ombre Crimson and Clear Bubble Brutalist Unsigned, 1970s

About the Item

A very attractive 1970s glass vase, hand blown. It sits in the style of Scandinavian glass of the 1970s period, especially with reference to the work of Erik Hoglund, though it could be from any of the Norwegian, Danish or Swedish glass houses of this period. Heavy, thick glass handled with great craft and skill. Crimson ombre neck with grey glass swirls and free bubbles. Straight-sided shape with a low foot and ground pontil. Unsigned.

Merletto Glass Vase with Ground Lip, style of Harrachov Czech
By Harrach Glassworks
Located in Melbourne, AU
This may not be a vase by the Czech company Harrach, hence listed ‘in the style of’. Nevertheless, it has a strong central European 1950s aesthetic. We love to connect the objects we find to the social movements of their time. This vase was made in the 1950s - the atomic age. You can see the inclination towards science - experimental materials and technology, accuracy and super fine detail in the 'Merlatto' (lace) glass treatment of this vase. The Merletto pattern inside the glass is unlike the triple-threaded Czech version. It looks more like the earlier Seguso Merletto...

1970s Brutalist Ice Glass Vase by Ingrid Glashütte
By Ingrid Glas Euskirchen
Located in Rümmingen, BW
This milk glass vase is in a Brutalist design and was made in Germany around 1970. Its surface is reminiscent of ice or bark, giving this vase a highly textured and interesting surface. This vase, while having a rather tough-looking design, still remains soft and clean due to its white color and rounded edges. This creates a very interesting juxtaposition that will add a cool and contemporary vibe to your interior. This ice or bark glass...
