Sculpture Giant Amphora Vase Majolica Hand Painted Four Seasons Art Nouveau
About the Item
Majestic amphora in glazed majolica, handmade and hand painted in central Italy. On the amphora are represented, in great detail, the four seasons personified by graceful women surrounded by floral elements, all the decoration is in Art Nouveau style and is a reinterpretation of the painting "The Times of the Day" (1899) by the painter Alphonse Mucha. The vase consists of three assembled parts: base, body and neck. The vase has a diameter of 68 cm (26,77 in.) and a height of 187 cm (73,62 in.). A truly exclusive piece of rare beauty. One of a kind piece.
The rarity of majolica artworks of this size lies in the technical difficulty of managing the entire creation process given the large size, both for the making of the terracotta artifact and the subsequent decorating phase. During the first firing of the clay biscuit the risk of breakage is very high and also during the second firing of the color majolica hides many pitfalls, this explains the rarity of artworks of this size, the difficulty of the decorations and consequently their value.

deBlona
Founded in 2020, deBlona emerged from a serendipitous encounter between entrepreneur Moreno Sagni and designer Riccardo Mei. Their shared passion for art and the timeless elegance of Italian craftsmanship inspired them to embark on this venture, blending their energies and expertise to revive a cherished tradition. In an era dominated by digital immediacy, deBlona chooses a different path—one that honors time and the mastery of an ancient craft. While fleeting trends may captivate for a moment, we believe in creating pieces that transcend the ephemeral. Our brand is a tribute to the art of slowing down, where every gesture reflects a lineage of skilled artisans, shaping works of beauty in quiet studios far from the rush of modern life. At deBlona, our atelier is where tradition meets innovation. It’s a sanctuary for our master artisans, whose expertise in materials and techniques is the foundation of every exquisite creation. Here, our majolica pieces come to life, infused with a deep reverence for history and a contemporary artistic vision. What defines deBlona is the singularity of our decorative approach and our bold interpretation of color. Majolica has long been a witness to humanity’s story, and through our work, we aim to continue that narrative—one of artistry, craftsmanship, and timeless beauty.

Large Amphora Vase Majolica Figurative Subject Crocodile Hunt Rubens Policrome
Located in Recanati, IT
Majestic majolica Amphora vase, with a height of 183 cm (72 in) and a diameter of 52 cm (20,5 in): a unique piece, entirely handmade and hand-painted in Gubbio, Central Italy, in 1995. Its surface is decorated with a splendid and detailed reproduction of the famous "The Hippopotamus and Crocodile Hunt", painted by Peter Paul Ruben's (1615).
The body of the vase shows remarkable technical capabilities, given its size and complexity. The amphora is divided into three parts: the base, the central body and the neck.
Description of the reproduction painted :
Peter Paul Rubens created the canvas oil painting entitled The Hippopotamus and Crocodile Hunt between 1615–16. The hunt takes place on the banks of the Nile, as indicated by a palm tree in the background. As hippopotami and crocodiles were considered dangerous nuisances, their destruction was a duty performed by noblemen. The hunting party comprises three men in orientalizing costume—mounted on Arabian horses, who hunt with lance and sword—and two valets clad in roughly-hewn jerkins—one of whom has been killed by one of the beasts. The enraged hippopotamus tramples the crocodile, as both are attacked by the hunters and hounds...
