Swedish Vase / Bowl by Monica Backström for Kosta Boda Artist Collection

About the Item

This is the Swedish very rare glass vase in the Kosta Boda series Artist Collection, designed by the glass artist Monica Backström. It comes with a folded, smooth rounded edge and handmade with overlay technique. The vase is a very heavy and steady piece, ca 3000 gram (6 lb 9.8 oz). It is made in a limited edition of 300 copies and is not in production anymore. This particular piece is signed and marked in the bottom: 7291010 Monica Backström LIMITED 300 EX. ____________________ Monica Backström was born in 1939 in Oscar's parish in Stockholm, was a Swedish designer and artist. Backström studied at the Higher Art Industrial School, HKS, 1959–1964. The same year she graduated she contributed a silver service in a competition organized by Boda Glasbruk for their 100th anniversary. She was victorious, which was the start of her work as a glass designer at the glassworks in 1965. Monica Backström passed away in the year 2020 at the age of 81. Today she is represented among others in: Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Sweden. Röhsska Museet in Gothenburg, Sweden. Inpotent museums in Holland, Germany, Norway and Denmark. Victoria & Albert Museum in London, England. Corning Museum of Glass in New York, USA. American Craft Museum in New York, USA. Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York, USA.
