About the Item
A rare mid-century ceramic ashtray by Victoria Littlejohn, made in the 1970s. This hand-thrown ashtray features a wonderful blue glaze and decorative design that reveals the stoneware. The bottom of the piece is signed in the clay, Littlejohn and V-31.
Victoria Littlejohn produced both production and one-of-a-kind work. Her one-of-a-kind pieces were made using stoneware or earthenware. While at the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts, Littlejohn worked with terra cotta. At the University of Southern California, Littlejohn studied pottery with F. Carlton Ball and Susan Petersen before going on to study with Peter Voulkos and Marguerite Wildenhain.
