Antique German Sterling Silver Goblet with Imperial Eagle
About the Item
German sterling silver goblet, ca 1910. Ovoid bowl and domed foot. Support in form of cast eagle with raised wings. The eagle was a symbol of Teutonic power since the Middle Ages. This piece dates from the Second Reich, which ended in 1918. German maker’s marks and English import marks; retailer’s stamp for Walser, Wald in Buenos Aires in Argentina, where a large German population settled beginning in the second half of the 19th century. Weight: 8.5 troy ounces.

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver goblet has a circular bell shaped form onto a knopped stem and circular spreading foot.
The body of this large silver goblet is embellished with bright cut engraved suspended leaf festoons accented with ribbon bow motifs and interlacing swags.
The decoration to the body incorporates a large oval vacant cartouche to either side.
The upper portion of the goblet is encompassed with bright cut engraved interlacing and scalloped borders below an applied moulded rim.
The knop to the stem is encircled with a bead decorated border.
The foot is ornamented with further bright cut engraved simplified leaf festoon decoration accented with a scalloped border to the rim.
This exceptional and large silver goblet retains the original gilded interior.

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver wine goblet has a circular bell shaped form onto a knopped stem and circular spreading foot.
The body of this antique silver goblet is embellished with impressive embossed and chased scrolling leaf decoration accented with bead motifs, all on a matte background.
The decoration to the body incorporates plain lobed arch designs, composing five vacant cartouches.
The upper rim of the drinking vessel is encircled with an applied moulded border.
The circular knop to the plain stem is encompassed with applied bead decoration.
The swept foot is embellished with further embossed and chased decoration reflecting that of the body and is encircled with an applied band of bead decoration to the rim.
This exceptional sterling silver goblet was crafted by the London silversmiths John Newton Mappin & George Webb of Mappin & Webb.
