Art Deco Ohio Stone's Skyscraper "The Tallest Glass of Beer" Large Glass Stein

About the Item

Art Deco "The Tallest Glass of Beer" Skyscraper Stein – Stone’s Grill, Cleveland – c. 1930s. Sold per stein, 4 available. An iconic piece of American Art Deco barware, this striking pressed glass beer stein was created to celebrate the grand opening of Stone’s Grill in Cleveland, Ohio during the 1930s. Standing an impressive 10.25 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide, this substantial glass stein was famously marketed as “The Tallest Glass of Beer”, designed to serve Stone’s legendary 15¢ beer in bold, modernist style. The stein is crafted from clear pressed glass and features raised lettering reading “Stone’s Skyscraper”, along with Art Deco depictions of Cleveland’s most prominent skyscrapers—a celebration of the city’s urban growth and the vertical ambitions of the era. With its strong silhouette, architectural motif, and generous proportions, it captures the spirit of 1930s optimism and industrial design. In excellent condition, the glass shows no chips, cracks, or signs of wear, making it an exceptional and rare surviving example. A stein of this model was notably exhibited at the Wolfsonian Museum in Miami, a leading institution known for its focus on American Art Deco and industrial design history. Whether displayed in a barware collection, an Art Deco interior, or given as a unique design gift, this stein is a striking piece of 20th-century American commercial design and a powerful symbol of the architectural and cultural energy of prewar Cleveland.

Early 20th Century German Stoneware Beer Stein
Located in New York, NY
Gray glazed stoneware beer stein with a curved ceramic handle with a domed pewter lid with a pewter thumb-lift. Transfer printed in blue is a scene of a soldier, a religious Jew, scales on a table, and a fox. Titled “Trau keinem Fuchs auf gruner Heid, und keinem Jud bei seinem Eid” ("Trust no Fox on his green Meadow and no Jew on his Oath”), Germany, 1920s. The scene shown is of an argument between a soldier and a Jewish judge. The Jew raised his hand showing the soldier he has to take an oath to tell the truth. The hair of the judge turns up like the horns of Satan. The soldier is accusing a fox of killing his hare, and the fox is shown sneaking away, for he is probably responsible for the death of the hare. The judges table...
