Contemporary Prise Patinated Bronze Bottle Opener by Henry Wilson

About the Item

Prise Patinated Bronze Bottle Opener by Henry Wilson Dimensions: W 3,6 x D 3,5 x H 12 cm. Materials: Bronze. Available in patinated and blackened finishes. Please contact us. Prise Bronze Bottle Opener’s design embodies a playful ambiguity, merging elements of mid-century sculpture and familiar industrial tools. A highly sculptural reframing of a utilitarian, often unremarkable essential, this is not an object to be tucked away in your kitchen drawer, but one to sit where its bold form can be duly appreciated. Each piece is manufactured by a small-scale art foundry in Sydney, using the centuries-old technique of lost wax casting; then hot-patinated and sealed in restoration wax to facilitate a rich, dark, tarnish-resistant surface, before being punched with a maker's mark. The lengthy finishing process replicates that used by sculpture greats such as the English artist Henry Moore, renowned for his monumental post-war bronze works. The nature of the casting and finishing processes means slight variations will occur from one piece to another. Production marks may include slight pour ripples or surface pitting. The original finish will oxidize and darken to reveal a distinctive patina. If preferred, use a quality micro-crystalline wax polish. Crafted, finished, and polished in Sydney, Australia. Henry Wilson's work combines a rational, democratic utility with an element of sculptural expression. There is a clear form and function in our products, but it’s important they also have feeling. We are interested in the awkward beauty that comes from something made by hand. We like to explore how imperfection can be introduced into an Industrial process, to make something at scale that retains a sense of individual charm.
