About the Item

This rare 1952 Flamingo Bowl by Los Angeles Potteries is a striking example of mid-century California ceramics. Finished in a vibrant yellow glaze, the bowl features an irregular, amorphous shape reminiscent of organic modernist design. The interior reveals a beautiful gradient from warm rust tones into a soft pale gray, adding depth and character to the piece. In good vintage condition, the bowl shows only minor signs of age, including faint glaze crazing and one small area of rough interior glaze—both consistent with the handmade production process typical of Los Angeles Potteries. There are no chips or cracks. Founded in the 1940s, Los Angeles Potteries became known for its playful yet sophisticated ceramic wares, often designed with bold forms and rich color palettes. The Flamingo Bowl series was created for both decorative and functional use—ideal as a statement centerpiece, serving bowl, or collectible display piece. These bowls capture the exuberance and innovation of post-war West Coast design, aligning with other iconic mid-century makers like Eva Zeisel, Russel Wright, and Gladding-McBean. Highly collectible and increasingly rare, this sculptural bowl embodies the casual elegance of Mid Century Modern design with a distinct California flair.
