About the Item

American Art Nouveau Black, Starr & Frost Serving Bowl Sterling Silver Circa 1900 DIMENSIONS Height: 3.75 inches Diameter: 9.75 inches Weight: 21.13 ozt ABOUT MAKER ~ Black, Starr & Frost Founded in 1810, Black, Starr & Frost is America's first jeweler and a key figure in the nation's luxury heritage. Originally known as Marquand & Co., the company helped shape American jewelry design and was the first retailer on Fifth Avenue. Over its long history, it became renowned for passion, precision, and rare craftsmanship. Founded by Connecticut silversmith Isaac Marquand in 1804, the company grew under his son, Frederick Marquand, into the nation's most prominent jeweler during the Gilded Age. In 1838, the firm was sold and rebranded as Black, Ball & Co., later becoming Black, Starr & Frost in 1876. A 1929 merger with Gorham Manufacturing solidified its reputation as a premier jeweler, and the company returned to its iconic name in 1960. Today, Black, Starr & Frost continues to uphold its legacy of innovation and craftsmanship, redefining American luxury for a new generation.
