18th Century French Hand Painted Porcelain in Gilt-Mount 'Ormolu', Centrepiece

About the Item

Transitional period, late 18th century (circa 1770-1780) This vase embodies a neoclassical shape and a Rococo depiction of flowers, the blue flowers around the neck of the vase first appeared circa 1770s and became popular during the neoclassical period. In the 18th century, Parisian craftsmen took the art of gilt bronze to extraordinary heights of technical and artistic achievement, these objects were very expensive. Gilt bronze was a major element of the interior decoration of the houses of the wealthy and proclaimed the wealth and good taste of their owners, circa 1770s, the taste for gilt bronze ornament had conquered every wealthy household in Paris and it became an essential feature of any fashionable interior. This French Le Tallec parcel-gilt blue-celeste ground porcelain soupière with lid and tray from the mid-20th century has an oval shape and is in the Rococo style. The piece is in the Sèvres style with an oval bombe body centring sides of Rocaille molded details above shaped cartouches. The piece is signed and dated underneath the soupière with a dating system adopted by Le Tallec after 1941 in underglaze blue with a gilded stamp. A letter code in the upper part of the atelier signature “LT” indicates the date of production. This piece is signed “Z” for the year 1953.
