Indian Silver Rosewater Sprinkler, Antique, circa 1890

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Indian 900 standard silver rosewater sprinkler modelled in the form of a dancer; an addition to our diverse ornamental silverware collection This exceptional antique Indian silver rosewater sprinkler has been realistically modelled in the form of a cultural dancer with her arms outstretched. This dancing figurine is dressed in luxurious garments accented with chains and beads, all embellished with applied and chased decoration replicating the fabric's scrolling patterns and textures. To each wrist are multiple bangles, separated by the figures motions, her neck bears an impressive tiered ring chocker accented with a floral pendant drop. The woman's long straight hair is draped behind her ears and hangs to the base of her back, surmounted with an interlacing fabric turban. This turban is surmounted with two screw fitting stoppers, allowing access to fill the two separate rosewater chambers. The rosewater in each compartment is released through the tip of each individual stemmed flower, held in the woman's hands*. This impressive rosewater sprinkler stands to a wept cylindrical base encompassed with chased scrolling leaf designs. The underside of this impressive sprinkler bears the purity hallmark 900, determining this piece as .900 (900/1000) standard silver. * Many cultures traditionally use rosewater when a guest enters a household, their palms would be generously sprinkled as a gracious greeting. Alternatively the rose water could be used after a meal to remove any enduring food smells. A fine and impressive antique German silver bread dish in the Art Deco style; an addition to our range of continental dining silverware. This fine antique German silver bread dish has an oval boat shaped form. The interior surface of the dish is embellished with four impressive pierced escutcheon shaped vertical pale ornamentations accented with applied festoon decoration. The lobed portions of the body are further ornamented with a paralleling panel of pierced circular motifs flanked with horizontal pales, all in the iconic Art Deco style. The rim is ornamented with an impressive applied reed decorated border. The hallmarks struck to the underside of this impressive dish include: Maker's mark: Icon for Körner & Proll (of Berlin) Silver quality/purity mark: .800 (800/1000) National mark: Crescent moon and crown Condition This antique bread dish is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition. The pierced and applied decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the dish are all very clear.
