Large Gilt Porcelaine de Paris Medici Vase

About the Item

This impressive 19th century Restoration period Medici vase is beautifully crafted from gilded Paris porcelain, and features an exquisite hand-painted panel on its front of a clipper ship and other small boats docking in a picturesque rural harbour-side. The rear side of the vase features an unusual musical motif etched into the gilt finish, while two ornate handles, each springing from two bearded faces, flank either side. The vase stands on a substantial square pedestal, which gives it great stability. There is some wear to the gilding on the ornate stem and to the base, but this does not in any way detract from its elegant beauty.
