About the Item

The vintage majolica centerpiece features a finely detailed pyramid of artichokes in woven basket, artfully painted in soft shades of green; the basket is done in monochromatic white glaze, creating a reserved, natural color palette of white and tone-on-tone green. The Artichoke Centerpiece was one of the first decorative objects Mottahedeh made in Italy, probably in collaboration with Basso, an Italian manufacturer. The centerpiece offers a touch of historical elegance and whimsical charm to any space. It can be used in a multiple ways, such as dining room centerpiece, console table accent, shelf or fireplace mantel decoration, or as the centerpiece for tables, the buffet, or the cake table at bridal showers, wedding receptions, or other events. The artichoke centerpiece fits perfectly with the rustic charm and emphasis on natural elements found in Italian country design; the classic shape, detailed design, and historical inspiration align well with traditional decor; the unique and slightly quirky design makes it a great addition to an eclectic space. Recently the design was recreated by Mottahedeh as a part of Presentation Collection in brighter colorway in shades of red, green, and pink; this centerpiece is a vintage version that offers softer, organic colors. Both versions can be easily combined in the tablescape or interior, if desired. The piece is marked on the bottom with "Made in Italy" stamp and rectanguar paper sticker with model number. Mottahedeh specializes in luxurious patterns and unique, elegant shapes, that are often reproduced from china found in museums and historical societies. The patterns feature complex and vibrant colors, and hand-painted decoration. The pieces are surprisingly fresh and timely, and look wonderful in both contemporary and traditional dining rooms.

Fratelli Fanciullacci Majolica Vase with Relief Decor, Italy Mid Century
By Fratelli Fanciullacci
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Unusual vintage majolica vase with complex glaze in dark Bordeau oxblood red and various shades of grey colors features bands of applied reliefs in shape of abstract, graphic flowers. Top and bottom parts of the vase and bands of relief decor are decorated with gold. Monochromatic white glaze was used on inner surfaces, accentuating the palest grey shades in the main glaze. The vase is signed on the bottom with model number and "Italy"; while it does not have the usual the manufacturer's mark, "FF", the glaze that was used for this series is well documented to Fratelli Fanciullacci. It was common for Italian ceramics manufacturers to omit marking their pieces with their logos if the they were intended for American or European distributors; instead, they would only mark it "Italy" to allow the distributor to use their stickers, or rarely, they would mark the piece with "studio tame" for "distributor name" if the distributor did not object. Pieces from this particular series were made by Fratelli Fanciullacci with their own mark, for Ebeling Reuss...
