About the Item

A vintage majolica ceramic clam shell or seashell candle holder and bowl set. This set was made in Japan and includes two candle holders for tapered candles, and one bowl or dish. Each piece is ceramic and formed into clam shells. The bowl features four trompe l'oeil shells placed side by side to form the bowl. It is glazed in a pink and purple drip glaze throughout. The bottom is marked "Made in Japan" in black. The pair of candle holders are in the same Hollywood Regency or Grotto shell motif. Each shell sits on its back with three small feet at the bottom. A small circular well is inside each shell to hold a tapered candle. Each is glazed in the same pink and purple drip glaze. Use this set at your next dinner party for a great conversation piece!
