Art Decò Green Enameled Terracotta Vase with Pure Gold Decorations, France
About the Item
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects.
Particular vase in green enameled terracotta with refined floral decorations in pure gold; the decorations are developed only on the front of the vase while the back is devoid of them; the shape recalls the ancient water flasks obtained from the Lagenaria siceraria or the "pumpkin bottle"; was made between 1949 and 1952 in some artisan workshop in Tours in the department of Indre et Loire (France) where the famous and ancient Sainte-Radegonde factory, specialized and famous for the excellent production of glazed terracotta, was located. The vase was made in Art Deco style as Sainte-Radegonde did around 1925; Since the vase has extremely accurate workmanship, the gold decorations are perfect and stand out on the background of a very elegant and carefully chosen green color, we can say with certainty that the craftsman who made it was really a Master who almost certainly collaborated with Sainte-Radegonde like other small workshops in the area of Tours that produced for the big company. The vase is in good condition but on the bottom has some small imperfections (see photo), this is a problem that almost always occurs overtime on the colored vases of Tours; in fact, they are made of glazed terracotta and fired in a furnace at a temperature between 960 ° and 30 °, while for porcelain firing is between 1200 ° and 1300 ° and for ceramics between 1400 ° and 1700 °, this explains why terracotta products are less stable over time and may have imperfections as in our case( the vase are 71 years old), but they are imperfections that testify its authenticity. Saint Clement Blanche Letalle French Art Deco Vase In Ceramic And Pure Gold
By Saint-Clément, Blanche Letalle
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly invite you to read the entire description, as we strive to provide detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our items.
This distinctive and captivating vase stands out for its understated Pompeian red color, admired for its exceptional elegance and plasticity. The body is adorned with linear, refined, stylized stars in relief, embellished with pure gold accents. The pottery used is glazed earthenware, and the glossy finish suggests the use of vitreous glazes to achieve a bright, uniform effect. The gilding on the stars was likely applied using the ceramic lustre technique, where gold is added at a low temperature after the initial firing, resulting in a shiny and durable finish. The vase was crafted in the Art Deco style between 1930 and 1935 at the Saint Clement pottery...
