About the Item

A piece of Kansas City Art Deco history. This antique bowl, from the late 1800s-early 1900s was created for the Baltimore Hotel in Kansas City MO. Just imagine the conversations that were had in the company of this piece! Just before the depression, we imagine there were many heated discussions. On the interior of the bowl, an beautiful red, green, yellow and blue Art Deco design lines the rim. A crest on one side shows a pair of lions above a ribbon which reads “Hotel Baltimore”. The exterior of the bowl has the same Art Deco design on white, with a small footed base with red rim. About the Hotel: The Baltimore Hotel was located between 11th and 12th Streets and Baltimore Avenue in Kansas City, Mo. Originally designed by Louis Curtis and built by Bernard Corrigan, The Baltimore opened in the Spring of 1899 as a small six-story, 160-room hotel and grew (with several renovations and additions) to a large hostelry with 500-rooms.
