About the Item
Rita Alaoui seeks to explore and rethink our relationship with the wild world and to imagine connections with the extraordinary. Fascinated by the power of nature and concerned about a world on the verge of extinction, she focuses her approach on the representation of a dreamlike, sacred and beneficial nature. Following a protocol close to botany and archaeology, her work revolves around the collection, accumulation and observation of natural and apparently banal objects, which she meticulously gathers and organises in the temple that is her studio, conferring on them an unsuspected sacredness or spirituality, and giving each small fragment of bone, stone, seed or plant an animist dimension. Initially a painter, Rita Alaoui has varied her modes of creation, moving from painting to drawing, photography, installation, video-performance and the creation of artists' books. Her work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in France and abroad.
