About the Item

Made by Dutch Post-war ceramics manufacturer Zaalberg, this extra large Mid-Century Dutch ceramic jug is beautifully coated in a rich lava glaze. Founded by Hermanus Zaalberg in Zoeterwoude, the Netherlands in 1918 the manufacturer quickly became known for producing ceramic bowls, pots, and vases for the floral trade, as well as fulfilling architectural commissions. In a relatively short amount of time Zaalberg's clientele included luminaries such as Paul Bromberg and Bas Von Pelt, establishing the company as one of Europe's foremost makers of modernist stoneware. This piece, a terrific example of the company's work, is in original condition with visible wear consistent with its age and use.
