About the Item

A table set for 12 or 18 people, "Marine," signed by Ludovic Napoléon Lepic, was crafted in earthenware by the prestigious Creil and Montereau manufactory in 1889. This unique set features different patterns, each depicting finely detailed maritime landscapes showcasing various ships and lighthouses all around the world, a hallmark of the naturalist painter Ludovic Napoléon Lepic, a prominent member of the Berck-sur-Mer School. This set includes the following pieces: - 42 Dinner plates - 13 soup plates. - 6 Oval serving dishes (12.5 x 21.5 cm). - 2 round serving platters (31 cm and 35 cm in diameter). - 2 oval serving platters (38 x 28 cm and 50 x 37 cm). - 1 salad bowl (28 cm in diameter). The printed decorations, hand-finished with brushwork, reflect exceptional craftsmanship. This service was exhibited at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle alongside works by Félix Braquemont. Produced in collaboration with Maison Léveillé, a renowned Parisian house of fine tableware, it embodies the luxury and refinement sought after by the affluent bourgeoisie of the late 19th century, captivated by the charm and exoticism of the maritime world. The marine scenes, inspired by fishing ports along the Côte d’Opale and ships at sea, demonstrate Lepic's attention to picturesque detail and maritime life. Some pieces from this collection are displayed in the museums of Creil and Berck, highlighting its historical and artistic importance. A rare and exceptional ensemble, ideal for collectors of antique earthenware and decorative arts from the 19th century.
