Reference:
St. Amand majolica is a type of tin-glazed earthenware that was produced in the town of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, France, from the 17th century to the early 20th century. The pottery was known for its brightly colored glazes, which were often decorated with floral motifs, landscapes, and portraits.
The history of St. Amand majolica can be traced back to the 16th century, when the town was granted a royal monopoly on the production of faience, a type of tin-glazed earthenware. In the 17th century, the town's potters began to experiment with new glazes and decorative techniques, and St. Amand majolica soon became known for its high quality and artistry.
In the 18th century, St. Amand majolica was exported all over Europe, and it became a popular choice for tableware and decorative objects. The pottery's popularity continued into the 19th century, and it was even used by the French government to produce official porcelain.
The production of St. Amand majolica declined in the early 20th century, and the pottery closed its doors in 1920.
