About the Item
Very large and rare Goldscheider ceramic figurine of the 1920's:
Striding graceful young lady in oriental clothing, balancing an amphora on her head, the delicate bustier, essentially consisting of two decorated cups and held together by ribbons and chains, a hip ornament loosely placed around the waist, which holds the skirt around the legs together, hair covered by a floor-length cloth decorated with an elaborate, stylized floral pattern, right hand on hip, left hand supporting the amphora on her head.
On a black, stepped rectangular base, the artist's signature 'Lorenzl' on the back.
Designed by Josef LORENZL (1892 - 1950), one of the most important designers who worked for the Goldscheider manufactory in the period of 1920-1940.
This Model 5525 was created circa 1925.

Josef Lorenzl
Josef Lorenzl was born in Vienna on 1st September 1892. He started out working at the Vienna Arsenal in the foundry, where he learned the techniques of bronze casting. Working from a studio in the company’s grounds, he was able to produce many bronze and chryselephantine sculptures. Lorenzl was captivated by the female form he became well known for his shapely dancing girls with long, elegant legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl also was a gifted ceramicist, producing pieces for Goldscheider.

Exceptionally rare sea green gilded Holmegaard figural decanter and stopper designed in 1926 by Jacob Bang -The body of the decanter is his torso and legs -his arms are the twin handles and his head is the stopper-with the pourer formed into his collar.
