About the Item
A striking large-scale ceramic bowl by renowned Italian artist Marcello Fantoni (1915–2011), celebrated for his mastery of form and glaze. Hand-thrown in Florence circa 1950s, this piece showcases Fantoni’s signature use of textured surfaces and painterly glazes.
The cylindrical vessel is finished in a matte sky-blue ground with deep olive and earthy brown drip accents cascading from the rim, pooling into a luminous glossy interior. The bold notched edge detail further enhances its sculptural presence. The exterior bears Fantoni’s characteristic rough-hewn surface, contrasting beautifully with the fluid glaze treatment inside.
This bowl is signed Fantoni Italy on the underside. Its substantial scale makes it ideal as a centerpiece, decorative accent, or collector’s display.

Marcello Fantoni
Marcello Fantoni was a Florentine artist who specialized in ceramics. He studied at the Art Institute in Florence, where Libero Andreotti and Bruno Innocenti were his sculpting professors and Gianni Vagnetti was his figurative art professor. Fantoni began to work as a ceramist in 1934, opening his factory in 1936. After the Second World War, he became very successful, and his works are held in some of the world's most important museums (from the USA to Japan).
