About the Item

A truly beautiful and unique decorative ceramic dish by Finnish Designer Liisa Hallamaa for Arabia. The dish has a striking resemblance to the eye pupil with cream brownish and pinkish tones with a dark center creating the effect of it looking back at you. A stunning piece in very good condition and signed to the bottom. Liisa Hallamaa (1925-2008) was a renowned Finnish ceramic artist known for her unique and expressive work. Born in Helsinki, she graduated from the Taideteollisuuskeskuskoulu (now part of Aalto University) in 1949. Her career began at Wärtsilä Arabia porcelain factory in 1945, where she initially worked on small figurines. Hallamaa's work is characterized by her bold use of colors and large-scale vases and bowls, often made from stoneware and porcelain. She held several solo exhibitions in Finland and abroad and received numerous awards for her contributions to the field of ceramics. In 1974, she founded Alamaan Keramiikka in Mikkeli, where she continued to create both functional and decorative pieces. Her works are included in collections such as the Helsinki Design Museum's and of course in private collections .

Unique Birger Kaipiainen Ceramic Plate in Luster Blues & Red with Beeds, Arabia
By Birger Kaipiainen, Arabia
Located in Helsinki, FI
Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988) was the master of decorative ceramics at the Arabia factory in Finland. He was well known for his ornamental dishes that were rich, colourful and with themes from the fantasy world and fairytales, which actually fought against the idealism of the minimalistic movements in 1950s. Kaipiainen introduced ceramic beads to his art in the 60s' and the surface of the object became more important for Kaipianen´s art. This beautiful unique ceramic plate...
