"Opposition, " Rare Art Deco Cloisonné Tile with Anti-Nazi Theme, 1945

About the Item

This rare and remarkable tile produced at the close of World War II in Delft, depicting the Nazi dragon being slayed by the Dutch people, is a superb example of Art Deco cloisonné tilework as well as politically-themed art. The dragon, with a swastika on his forehead, is wrapped around the towns and cities of the Netherlands, though his death is sure at the hands of the Dutch townspeople wielding pikes and axes. The tile was produced with holes at the top for hanging, so can be displayed on a wall or on a table stand.
