About the Item

An unusual ceramic, studio vase by Elinor Jensen, ca' 1960's. Heavy, earth tones, decorated with concentric circles. A note about the artist: She was a member of the Ceramic League of Miami. She operated her own studio, "Pottery by Elinor," on Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, starting in the late 1960s. She later moved her studio to Andrews Avenue, where she continued to create and teach pottery. Jensen was renowned for her mastery of the raku firing technique, which creates unique crackle patterns in the glaze and can result in metallic lusters. She was recognized as a leading raku artist in the area. She received numerous accolades for her work, including the Wiggins Award at the Coconut Grove Art Show and a first prize at the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Art Show. She passed away in 1989 at the age of 57. Her Ceramic Style: Jensen's pottery often featured abstract patterns and the distinctive texture and depth of the raku glaze. Examples of her work include decorative vessels, vases, and sculptures. Some pieces showcase a saltglaze finish in addition to the raku technique. Her earlier works, particularly from the 1960s, may exhibit a more organic, Mid-Century Modern style. Her pieces are often signed on the bottom with "E Jensen"
