A Victoria Pottery Majolica Cobalt Basketweave Sardine Box, English, ca. 1883

About the Item

A Rare Victoria Pottery Company Majolica Sardine Box with five sardines on green glazed lotus pads and other foliage, trimmed in yellow bamboo with green shoots, the body and integral underplate are molded as a cobalt-glazed woven basket. The interior glazed in turquoise, the reverse with two factory impressed marks VPC in a monogram for Victoria Pottery Company, English, ca. 1883. This piece with a brown ground is included in the Karmason Stacke Library of the Majolica International Society Number KL013354 with the designation very rare. A rare signed piece in a rare coloration.
