About the Item
This is a a good early tea cup and saucer duo, hand decorated with a leaf and gilt intertwining pattern by Worcester during the Barr / Barr, Flight and Barr period, fully marked to the bases and dating to circa 1805-1813.
The tea cup is well potted on a turned foot with a ring handle. The saucer is fairly high on a similar low foot.
The pattern is hand painted with an intertwining meandering pattern of dark brown leaves and gilding with additional gilding to the outer handle. The cup is illustrated in the book A Compendium of British Cups by Michael Berthoud on Page 64, Plate 379.
The cup base has the impressed BFB mark with crown above while the saucer has an incised "B" , which might indicate the saucer as being slightly earlier in date, circa 1805.
