About the Item

Very rare set of 12 earthenware illustrated plates with ivory background decorated with pink fuchsia designed personified animals realizing various activities and a sepia orange filet on the rim. Size: Diameter of each plate 21.5 cm List of the captions (in French): "La lutte à main platte", "Réunion électorale", "La Guerre", "Chanteurs ambulants", "Une soirée", "Sans douleur", "Grande représentation", Sérénade","Un grand criminel, "Une affaire d'honneur","Socié. Financière","La Bourse ou la vie !" (The War, A Party, Without pain, Electoral meeting, etc.) Work realized by the French Creil & Montereau Manufactory, in good condition. One plate, "Une Soirée" has a chip (see picture), and another one "Chanteurs ambulants" a small crack on the rim. Creil & Montereau was created in 1840 with the fusion of two rival firms: Creil (created in 1774) and Montereau (created in 1745). This earthenware (and porcelain) manufactory was famous for its technique of engraved image decal and for having produced the famous "Rousseau" Service after Felix Bracquemond engravings.
