French Faïence Longchamp Pompadour Hand-Painted Asparagus Plate
About the Item
A French earthenware, majolica glazed asparagus plate, molded by Longchamp in the Pompadour pattern, circa 1890-1910.
Seven raised asparagus glazed in turquoise and lavender lay across the centre of the plate forming a deeper sauce well on either side. Hand-painted floral bouquets dot the rims, each different, making each plate unique. Different examples are pictured.

From the Longchamp Faïencerie in France, an octagonal shaped Asparagus plate, circa 1885.
The plate shows transfer printed, hand painted floral bouquets and sprays on a creamy white ground. The lower area of the plate has a sauce well divided by two green, crossed asparagus spears. The plate is rimmed by a raised running border of end to end green spears as well.
