Mid-Century Modern French MBFA Pornic Pottery Red & Black Graphic Oyster Plate

About the Item

A mid-century French hand-painted oyster or seafood plate, made by the MBFA Pornic Pottery Studio, circa 1960s. The MBFA Pornic ceramic company is situated in Loire Atlantique, Western France. By the designer Bernard Serraz, the plates are glazed ceramic, and decorated with a bold graphic pattern in red and black on a gray background. Each plate has six leaf shaped wells for holding oysters, mussels or scallops, and a larger central well for lemons or a dipping sauce. Very impactful – a great representation of the Mid-Century era of French design. Each plate varies slightly as they are entirely painted by hand. Measures: 10 in. in diameter x .75 in. height. The versos are glazed in a pale blue and marked: MBFA Pornic, with the French text for hand painted – paint à la main. Multiple plates are available, all in excellent vintage condition.
