Rare c.1900 Grecian Pattern Historical Blue Royal Staffordshire Pottery Plate

About the Item

This rare Royal Staffordshire Pottery piece was part of the Aesthetic Movement, which started in England in the late 19th century. This plate has the historic Staffordshire markings using the, “Grecian” pattern with gilt highlights. Created by artists at Royal Staffordshire Pottery Company of Burslem, England c. 1900, this particular pattern eludes the curious in that the available history/pattern books and websites do not show this pattern. For the collector, this could be a wonderful addition. To the decorator, this would be a beautiful addition to a wall of Blue Flow china or a simple piece for a table decoration. Interesting knowledge: Staffordshire was a region where most of England's ceramics were produced because the area was rich with clay that was plentiful and easily obtained, as it was right at the surface of the land. This allowed potters to dig clay up right from the roads, hence the term, "pot holes" was born!
