Seven Antique Blue and White Porcelain Soup Dishes Made by Derby England C-1805

About the Item

These seven blue and white seven soup dishes are elegant. They were made by Derby Porcelain at the Nottingham Road factoryin Derbyshire, England, circa 1805, and have the Derby mark of the period. The Derby Porcelain painters used overglaze blue in two shades: a pale blue and a darker, heavier blue to create this lovely design. The delicate floral design features a single blooming flower with smaller leaves and buds strewn around. The border is ringed by two blue lines and is gently lobed. The lobes add visual interest as light plays across the curved surfaces. Marks: This Derby Porcelain mark of the period in underglaze blue was used in the factory from 1782 to 1811 (see last image). Dimensions: diameter 9.75" x 1.75" deep Condition: Excellent with an area only on the underside around each edge where the glaze didn't cover (see the eighth image). Price: $730 Background of Derby Porcelain: Derby Porcelain's early production dates to the mid-18th century. In 1756, William Duesbury joined Andrew Planche and John Heath to create the Nottingham Road factory, which later became Royal Crown Derby.
