About the Item

Jacques Pouchain was a ceramicist, painter, and sculptor born in Paris in 1927. He studied architecture, and did a stay at the Grande-Chaumière academy. In 1951 he relocated his practice to Drôme. He spent time at Coursange earthenware factory in Poët-Laval defining his devotion for ceramics. In 1959 he began his atelier in Dieulefit. With a background and simultaneous practice in abstract painting, he steered toward the design side and less on the utilitarian aspects of ceramic works, but impressed his desire that his art should be accessible to all. Pouchain exhibited his works in France and other international venues, namely Cantini Museum in Marseille in 1965 and the first Biennale de Vallauris in 1968. His works are held in several collections such as, Musée d’art Moderne in Paris, Valence Museum, Marl Museum in Germany, and elsewhere in Boston, Montreal, as well as Maison de la Drôme in Paris. Jacques Pouchain died in 2015.
