About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver plate; an addition to our ornamental Georgian silverware collection This exceptional George III sterling silver plate has a plain circular shaped form with a plain circular central well. The well of this fine antique plate is plain and unembellished. The shaped border is ornamented to one side with the fine and impressive contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms depicting an escutcheon quarterly, first and fourth charged with stars, the second a bend with three cross-bottony, the third with a bird, in addition to an inescutcheon quarterly the first and fourth a chevron and the second and third a saltire. The border is further embellished with a pair of contemporary bright cut engraved crests displaying a talbot couped and a wing erect. The rim is encompassed with an impressive applied reed decorated border. The underside of the plate bears the original scratch weight 15.13 troy ounces in addition to the categorising 'N18'*; as to be expected the measured weight has subtly diminished in keeping with age to 15.2 troy ounces. * This plate will have been a component of a more extensive service, which over time has been divided.
