AVEM Murano Zanfirico Bizantino "Tutti Frutti" Red Glass Vase
About the Item
Here is an exquisite 1960's Venetian glass vase, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. This piece was made by AVEM (Arte Vetraria Muranese), part of their "Bizantino" series (commonly referred to by collectors as "tutti-frutti") which was introduced in 1953. Similar items are shown in the book "AVEM, Arte Vetraria Muranese, Artistic Production 1932 - 1972" by Marc Heiremans (pages 106-109, 209, 218 and 222). Decorated with silver leaf, white zanfirico lattice filigree, twisted ribbon canes, and copper aventurine. All of this is surrounded with an inner casing of red glass, and an outer clear glass casing.
This vase has a hole towards the bottom which would have been done to convert this to a lamp. Please see photos
