About the Item

A 1920's French purple pressed glass vase with triangular motiffs by Degué. The vase is signed on the lower section. David Guéron (1892 - 1950) is a Turkish-born entrepeneur of Spanish Jewis origin and the founder of the Degué brand of French art glass. At age 22, he joined the French Legion in 1914 an fought on the Western front during World War I. Injured during the conflict, he invested his pension on a new glassmaking company. By the 1920's he had established his company in Compiègne, where he began doing one-of-a-kind art glass in 1926. Despite facing different controversies during the company's history, Degué achieved an important technical prowess and artistic fame. By the end of the 1930's, Degué faced important economical struggles. By 1939, after the beginning of World War II, Guéron had to shut down his factories.
