Vintage Tim Lazer Oxblood Red Vase, American Studio Art Glass, 1971

About the Item

Vintage fused and cased glass vase features complex, multilayered composition of colored fused glass, metallic pigments, and gold foil on deep, jewel-toned, oxblood burgundy red glass background. The use of multiple layers of gold foil and metallic pigments and oxides creates fascinating visual effects withing the piece; as the viewer moves around the vase, various layers of glass become more or less prominent, changing colors and overall design. The vase is signed and dated by the artist on the bottom. Tim Lazer's love for glass began at Palomar Junior college in San Diego County under the influence of Val Saunders. After Palomar Tim studied further at CSU Fullerton, where he experimented with fusing metals and off-hand glass blowing, using different layers of glass, precious metals, and glass powders melted or fused onto the surface of the glass to obtain transparent, iridescent, lustrous and opalescent pieces. His studies at the Corning Museum Glass Center with Italian master Lino Tagliapietra had a great influence on his work. Working from his Sacramento, California, studio, Tim focuses on combining beauty and function to produce vases, platters, and other art glass pieces. He is represented by multiple galleries nationwide.
