About the Item

An artisanal signed Talavera pitcher by Juan Antonio Froilan. Decorated in a brilliant white with a cobalt blue handle, blue pinched lip and line around the base and the word ‘Sangria’ under the spout. Decorated with floral sprays in yellow, blue, and pink with green. Signed underneath “Froilan Talavera”. Juan Antonio Froilan Oviedo was born in Extremadura, Spain, and was introduced to ceramics when his family moved to Talavera, Mexico, when he was just 10. He worked in a local taller alongside his father and took painting classes, before opening his own company the Fábrica Taller Cerámica Artística in 1985 with his wife María. Later they purchased the historic El Carmen ceramics factory, originally established in 1849 but closed for several decades, to revive mayólica production in Talavera. He attended National and International Exhibitions winning several prizes for his work.
